What is a “Yard Giveaway”?
Think of a yard sale or a garage sale, except everything is free! Members of The Mount Vernon Church of Christ, and other community members, donate items they no longer need and we give them away.
Why are you guys doing this? Is there a catch?
There’s no catch! We do this for a few reasons. First, we love people and want to be a blessing to our community. We also want to serve the Lord. The Bible says, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” We are trying to obey God by sharing some of what we have. Finally, we are doing this because we want to reach people with the love of Jesus. We would love for this event to be something that brings you closer to God and maybe helps you become a member of our church. That being said, we will hand out some promotional materials and information about our church, but we won’t force anything on anyone.

When and where is it?
This year’s giveaway will be Saturday, June 8th from 9am to 12pm. We are located at 1200 Newark Rd (RT 13) Mount Vernon, OH, 43050. We are right across the street from the Jeld-Wen factory and just a little down the road from Lanning’s.
Who can come and “shop” the giveaway?
Anyone! There are no restrictions based on income or any other factor. Make plans to be there and bring a friend!
Is there a limit to how much I can take?
We have no limit on the amount of items that a person can take. We understand that different people will have different needs, some need more and some need less. We do ask, however, that you consider that we are trying to be a blessing to as many people as possible.
Do I need to bring anything?
You don’t need to bring anything, however, it is recommended that you bring some bags or containers to help you carry the items you’ve found. You do not need to bring any ID or income verification.
How can I donate?
You can donate by bringing your items to the church building (1200 Newark Road) May 1-June 2. After June 2, we will no longer accept donations as we need time to sort through everything. If no one is at the building when you are dropping off donations, please leave the items under the overhang on the benches by our main doors.
What items can I donate? Are there any items you won’t accept?
You can donate any items that you would put in a garage sale. We ask that items be clean and gently used. If you would throw it away, we will too!
We also ask that you refrain from donating items such as movies, games, books, etc. that have mature content. We are a church after all, and if we deem something to be sinful we will throw it away.
